Having just starred as two old school gangsters, the Kray twins, in the 2015 hit British Gangster Biopic Legend. Tom Hardy is now set to portray one of the most storied and badass American Gangsters of all-time in writer-director Josh Trank's new film Fonzo.
THR is reporting that "the Academy Award nominee is set to star as Al Capone in Fonzo, the upcoming project from writer-director Josh Trank (Chronicle, Fantastic Four). The story will center on Capone at the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, as dementia rots his mind and his violent past comes back to haunt him."
While Hardy's casting is very cool to say the least. The most interesting aspect of this news is the fact that Josh Trank has chosen a "gangster film" as his follow-up project to the disastrous Fantastic Four debacle of 2015. The once upon a time "would-b Star Wars spin-off" director will now hopefully have a chance to resurrect his career by taking on a smaller scale production.
As a huge fan of Trank's Chronicle, I'm really interested to see where his career goes now that all the controversy is behind him. Having an actor like Tom Hardy sign on to star in your next film is definitely a step in the right direction.
Hardy will next appear in the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan War Film Dunkirk.
Stay tuned for more news on Josh Trank's Fonzo. As always, thanks for stopping by ECMOVIEGUYS!
Fonzo does not currently have an official release date.
