With tons of news flooding out of the gates of Star Wars Celebration Europe right now, there is one big question that a lot of hardcore Star Wars fans have been clamoring to know for awhile, and that is whether or not Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will have an Opening Crawl like all of the Star Wars films before it?
Now it appears we perhaps have the answer from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Rogue One director Gareth Edwards who both spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the topic.
“You know, we’re in the midst of talking about it, but I don’t think these films will have an opening crawl,” Kennedy said of the possibility that Rogue One would include the familiar Star Wars trope. “I think that’s what we kind of telegraphed at the beginning of the event today.”
It’s sounding like there will be no opening crawl for Rogue One. However Gareth Edwards had the following to say:
“I think basically there’s a lot of things that I probably can’t talk about, is probably the safest way to answer that,” he joked. “The idea is this film is supposed to be different than the saga films…the whole crawl of it all — it’s funny people are fascinated on that.”
Interesting right? I'm still not 100 percent decided either, in a way a think it needs an opening crawl no matter what, because the genius of the the opening crawl is being able to relay so much new information and backstory to the movie going audience with very little effort. It sets the tone and helps suck you into the film before it even begins. What do you guys and gals think? Sound off in the comments section below with your thoughts. Opening Crawl or not for Rogue One? Let us know? As always thanks for stopping by EastCoastMovieGuys!
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to hit theaters on December 16th.
