Welcome back to our Box Office Weekend Update!
In what most box office experts would call shocking to say the least, Jurassic World completely destroyed all expectations this weekend! Universal and Legendary Pictures Jurassic World starring Chris Pratt opened with an estimated $204.6 million this weekend blowing out competition and cementing the film as the second highest opening film of all time, and it has the potential to become the number one film of all time when the "actuals" come in tomorrow afternoon. Marvel's The Avengers is just a mere $3 million ahead of it and no matter what Jurassic World is only the second film ever to open with more than $200 million domestically!
Coming in a far distant second place this weekend was Fox's Spy with an estimated $16 million. The film has grossed $56.9 million domestically after ten days of release. In third place this weekend is the Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's disaster vehicle San Andreas bringing in another estimated $11 million. The film has now accumulated an estimated $119.3 million domestically since its release.
Rounding out the top five coming in fourth place was the horror film Insidious: Chapter 3 grabbing an estimated $7.3 million in it second weekend. Bringing the low budget Blumhouse production to around $37.4 million after just 10 days.
Coming in fifth place this weekend was Anna Kendrick's Pitch Perfect 2 with an estimated $6 million! The hugely successful sequel has not brought in a very impressive $171 million in just one month of release!
