Welcome back to our Box Office Weekend Update here at ECMG,
Newcomers Terminator: Genisys and Magic Mike XXL were no match for this summer's box office king Jurassic World on this 4th of July weekend!
Jurassic World continued to surprise us in its fourth weekend of release, just barely edging out the competition. The film managed to bring in another Friday to Sunday total of around $30.9 million. The dino sequel starring Chris Pratt has now grossed an incredible $568.2 million domestically after its fourth weekend of release!
Disney Pixar's Animated family film Inside Out managed to hold on to second place this 4th of July weekend after trading places all week with Jurassic World. The film barely lost the weekend to Jurassic World pulling in another impressive $30.1 million. The animated hit film has now brought in $246.2 million domestically.
Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the Terminator franchise this weekend, to disappointing results with Terminator: Genisys. The fifth installment in the series brought in only $28.7 million at the box office this weekend. The film after five days of release has brought in a puny $44.2 million! With a price tag of around $155 million before marketing cost, the film is a huge disappointment domestically. The Paramount-Skydance production will have to make up a lot of ground internationally over the next few weeks, to recoup the cost of the film and just maybe make a little profit.
Warner Brother's stripper sequel Magic Mike XXL starring Channing Tatum brought in a healthy $12 million for the 4th of July weekend. The three day weekend number doesn't sound very good at first, but since opening on Wednesday last week the film has brought in a nice $27 million with a low budget of just $14.8 million. Which means the studio is already in the black! Its all profit from here on out.
Finally rounding out the top five for this 4th of July weekend was the disappointing comedy sequel Ted 2 bringing in just $11.4 million in its second weekend of release. The film has now brought in around $58.3 million domestically. With a budget of around $85 million the film will be lucky to match that with its domestic grosses.
Well that's it for this week's edition of our Box Office Weekend Update here at ECMG!
