A24 has released the official trailer for writer/director Trey Edward Shults’ upcoming drama, Waves, starring Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Sterling K. Brown. The film had its world premiere last Friday at the Telluride Film Festival with many critics hailing the film as one of this year’s very best.
Set against the vibrant landscape of South Florida, and featuring an astonishing ensemble of award-winning actors and breakouts alike, Waves traces the epic emotional journey of a suburban African-American family—led by a well-intentioned but domineering father—as they navigate love, forgiveness and coming together in the aftermath of a loss.
Writer-director Trey Edward Shults, who directed one of last year’s best, Its Comes At Night impressed us last year with that incredible thriller, now, he returns in 2019 with Waves, a completely different film, once again written and directed by Shults. While we haven’t had a chance to screen this film, we’re definitely getting a lot of Manchester By The Sea vibes from this one, and Manchester is one of our favorite films of the decade. It also scored Casey Affleck his Best Actor Academy Award. Could Sterling K. Brown be in the same boat later this year? We’ll just have to wait and see on that.
Check out the beautiful trailer below and share this wonderful looking film with all your friends and family.
