What's up guys and gals,
Welcome back to our Weekend Box Office Report here @ECMG!
Taking the top spot this weekend was Sony's family film Goosebumps bringing in $23.5 million. The film stars Jack Black as the Goosebumps book series real life author R.L. Stine and centers around him and some neighborhood kids who accidentally brings the Goosebump's characters to life.
The Martian continued to do very well at the box office, coming in second place this weekend right behind Goosebumps with $21.5 million. The film has now grossed an impressive $143.8 million domestically.
The Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' Cold War drama Bridge of Spies opened in third place to a surprisingly strong $15.38 million. The film currently has a 92% positive approval rating on RottenTomatoes and since the film is playing to an older crowd it should have very strong box office legs over the course of the next few weeks.
Coming in fourth place this weekend with $12.85 million was the disappointing Crimson Peak directed by the highly overrated, but beloved filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. The film tried to sell itself as a horror film, but audiences figured out real fast that this was not the case. The film is actually a Gothic love story, with very little scares.
Rounding out the top five this weekend was Hotel Transylvania 2 bringing in another $12.25 million for a domestic total of $136.4 million.
As always thanks for stopping by for this week's edition of our Weekend Box Office Report, leave us your thoughts in the comments below, thanks!
