Following the jaw-dropping headline news that dropped earlier this week revealing that Keanu Reeves and one half of the original directing duo Lana Wachowski was confirmed for a 4th Matrix film. Our heads began to spin with ideas for the now highly anticipated sequel. What in the world could they have come up with? What is the true plan? Who all will return, who do we want to return? What beloved story elements will be revisited? Which ones will be retconned? Below we’ve listed the very short list of what has been confirmed for sure. Followed by a very long list of what we need…what we must have in a sequel, what we never truly got in Reloaded and Revolutions.
What is confirmed so far.
Keanu Reeves is back as the One! As Neo aka Mr. Anderson.
Carrie-Anne Moss is back as Trinity, the love of Neo’s life. One of the most badass Heroins ever portrayed on the big-screen.
Lana Wachowski is back in the director’s chair and will also be working on the script.
Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchel will also serve as screenwriters on the project.
Production is set to commence in early 2020.
Expect a late Summer at the earliest or Fall/Winter release 2021 release.
Now, for what we desperately need to be confirmed.
The first, most obvious one, is the great Lawrence Fishburne must return as the legendary Morpheus.
A less stylized more gritty hardcore martial arts action/gun play (John Wick style, The Matrix 1999 style). Way less Reloaded and Revolutions style over substance.
The Nebuchadnezzar, one of the coolest spaceships in sci-fi history this side of The Millennium Falcon must be brought back to life, and more fully realized than ever before.
This time around, We must get to enjoy ourselves inside of “The Matrix”, something we were promised given the incredible ending to the original film and spend way less time outside of the matrix which is what destroyed the sequels, especially Revolutions.
Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith. One of the greatest villains in cinema history, maybe not the main baddie this time around but still a “Heavy” sending some new Agents in to snuff out the Humans.
Original character actor Marcus Chong as Tank, later replaced by a new character known as Link (Harold Perrineau) in the sequels. While their is a lot of back story into why he was brought back for the sequels. Figuring out contracts, etc. To bring this beloved character back from the original would go along with the original’s diehard fans.
The promise of Vampires and Werewolves within the Matrix that is ever only hinted at, but never truly revealed. Overall, just more of the lore that was setup with the films but never truly revealed.
Speaking of vampires, bring back the two Twins that were unfairly killed way to early in Reloaded, played by character actors Neil and Adrian Rayment.
Bring some mind-blowing revolutionary action back to the franchise that the first one and even the second one pulled off. Something new, something fresh.
Finally, just introduce some cool new things to the franchise that no one is expecting, we want to have our minds blown while seating in the theater enjoying The Matrix 4.
