You read that title right folks! The legendary Hollywood duo of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are re-teaming for a brand new film based on the infamous and apparently very entertaining story about the huge scam surrounding the once hugely popular McDonald's Monopoly game. As the title above reveals, Ben Affleck is set to direct, with Matt Damon on board to star, along with the writers of Deadpool handling the script.
Deadline revealed earlier today that 20th Century Fox snagged the rights to make the film, less than a week after The Daily Beast ran a very lengthy, and highly entertaining story titled "How an Ex-Cop Rigged McDonald's Monopoly Game and Stole Millions." Here's the synopsis from the the piece, "Jerome Jacobson, a man who created a vast criminal network involving mobsters and small-time crooks to pull off a very unusual scam. Jacobson was a former cop who worked for the company that oversaw McDonald’s wildly popular Monopoly game. Jacobson’s scam involved stealing winning game pieces and distributing them to friends and relatives – provided these individuals cut him in on the winnings. The scam went on for years, and lead to him allegedly stealing over $24 million dollars from the game, and was eventually busted via an FBI sting."
Having just read that awesome article from The Daily Beast, we're stoked for this one, especially with Mr. Affleck at the helm, as this guy has become one of our favorite directors working today with his two all-time classics, Gone Baby Gone and The Town. Not to mention his Best Picture winner, Argo. Throw in Matt Damon to lead the film and boom! We've got go picture kids!
Stay tuned for more details as this project moves forward. For now though, let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. Are you excited for the true life tale of the McDonalds Monopoly scam? As always, thanks for stopping by ECMOVIEGUYS!
