In some late breaking news, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the long-time rumors we've speculated on for months! Billy Dee Williams will in fact return to the franchise in next year's highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode IX.
Filmmaker J.J. Abrams is returning to complete the latest trilogy that he brought back to glorious life with the incredible Star Wars: The Force Awakens back in 2015 following the release of last year's very divisive Star Wars: The Last Jedi from director Rian Johnson. Just to note, I actually love The Last Jedi and consider it a wonderful film, with flaws, but a wonder film none the less.
Billy Dee Williams made his debut as the endearing scoundrel and ex best friend to Han Solo in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and once again in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. He has also appeared as the character in countless other Star Wars projects and events throughout the past 30 years, including the incredible animated series, Star Wars: Rebels.
J.J. Abrams is set to commence production on the ninth film in the franchise at the end of July. Williams joins returning franchise members Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac. Along with recently announced new cast member Keri Russell, new cast members will be announced in the coming weeks.
The mega blockbuster film is set to hit theaters on December 20th, 2019.
As you can assume, I'm beyond excited about this announcement! What about you guys though? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, as always thanks for stopping by ECMOVIEGUYS. Please share this awesome news with all your awesome friends!
