As many movie goers and diehard fanboys will profess, one of the biggest successes of director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm's new Star Wars trilogy is the undeniable charm of its two leads; Daisy Ridley's Rey and John Boyega's Finn. While its always been Star Wars tradition to separate the main characters for the second film in the different trilogies, and almost every other blockbuster trilogy ever. Movie goers and fans (not us) were seemingly enraged at Rian Johnson for having Rey and Finn go on separate adventures in The Last Jedi.
From a story telling point, Johnson's decisions in The Last Jedi are some of the best ever in modern blockbuster cinema. However, many fans have argued, that they felt alienated and put off by Lucasfilm's subversive, very funny, and quite shocking story elements of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
It must be noted that back in 1980, movie going audiences around the world were also put off as well by director Irvin Kershner's more subversive, shocking and very funny The Empire Strikes Back. A film that is now considered one of the top ten films ever made.
A film that also separated the main characters from the original. Now, actor John Boyega has revealed a little tidbit about director J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX which will put at ease so many of the fans worries about the direction of the new trilogy.
At Washington, D.C.’s annual Awesome Con, John Boyega confirmed that Finn and Rey won’t spend Episode 9 separated from each other.
“I haven’t read the script for Episode 9. But Daisy did shoot me a text saying, “Oh my gosh, I just heard from J.J. [Abrams], and we’re back together. That’s what I’m really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again.”
Return of the Jedi did the same, and this should not come as shocking news to any true diehard Star Wars junkies. However, this is some really fantastic news, especially for all the fans who couldn't believe that Rian Johnson decided to have so little screen time between the two characters in The Last Jedi following their incredible on screen chemistry in J.J. Abrams The Force Awakens.
Are you ready to see Rey and Finn back together again in Episode IX? We sure as hell are! Lets talk about it in the comments below!
