Rumors have been circling for awhile from either insider knowledge and other unconfirmed sources, but now it appears that we have confirmation on exactly when and where Solo: A Star Wars Story fits into the canon Star Wars time-line. This is thanks to a recent little timeline published by Del Rey Books, the official publisher for Star Wars novels. Which, when combined with the canonical events that take place in the Star Wars universe points to a perfect setting in time and space for the upcoming young Han Solo spin-off.
While just using common sense and basic Star Wars knowledge we all pretty much knew that Solo was going to be set after Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, we just didn't know exactly when. Now we have a much clearer idea of where this highly anticipated spin-off falls in the canon.
The film will take place between the events in the Tarkin novel, and A New Dawn novel. Judging by the trailer, it appears the film will also be spread out over some period of time, maybe even several years, which fits considering that Tarkin and A New Dawn have some 3 to 4 years between them. As Tarkin is set 14 years before the events of the original trilogy and New Dawn is set 11 years before the events of the original trilogy.
This also tells us that Solo takes place 4 to 7 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Which is roughly 12 to 15ish years before we all first met Han and Chewy during the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. This is perfect considering how young Han looks in the trailers and it will also help all of us ease into the idea that Alden Ehrenreich will eventually age into Harrison Ford's more grizzled older Han Solo by the time we see him in A New Hope. People change a lot in 15 years of life.....right?
