Incredibly, the long awaited Gambit X-men spin-off film starring Channing Tatum has now lost another director. According to a new report from Deadline, filmmaker Gore Verbinski has now left the project due to scheduling issues with several other projects on Verbinski's plate. It was just recently that Fox set an official release date of February 14th, 2019 for the film.
Verbinski's exit marks the third director to come on board and leave the project. Originally Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt was attached to direct the film. Following his exit, The Bourne Identity's Doug Liman jumped aboard only to vacate the director's chair not long after.
Now I'd say that there's a very high percentage chance that we'll never see this film actually come to fruition. Production was set to begin on the film this March, so unless the film finds a replacement director quickly, time may be up. As Disney's acquisition of FOX will be finalized sooner, rather than later. Which means Disney may have different plans in mind for the character without Channing Tatum being involved.
