Here we go folks, Scott Cooper is back. The director of three of my favorite films of this century, Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace, and Black Mass is back with Hostiles. Another Americana tale, this time around, its a western set in 1892 starring Christian Bale and Ben Foster.
I'm ready! Lets watch the highly anticipated trailer below:
Damn this film looks incredible and its now its officially my third most anticipated film of the Fall, behind only The Last Jedi and Blade Runner 2049. Surprisingly, there was not a single shot of the the great Ben Foster, who is the highest billed actor in the film behind Bale and Pike. Hopefully they are hiding a magnificent reveal for Foster who has very Quietly became the best character actor in the business.
Here’s the official synopsis for Hostiles:
Set in 1892, Hostiles tells the story of a legendary Army Captain (Christian Bale) who, after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Wes Studi) and his family back home to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from New Mexico to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow (Rosamund Pike) whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape, hostile Comanche, and vicious outliers they encounter along the way.
Hostiles does not currently have a release date, however the film premieres at TIFF next week, and so we'd guess the film will get a late Fall release date.
