'Star Wars: The Last Jedi': Tons Of New Details Emerge About Luke Skywalker's Journey

A new and incredibly detailed report about director Rian Johnson's highly anticipated Star Wars sequel has been released by our good friends and number one go to source for all things Star Wars, MakingStarWars.net! These guys continue to be on their A-game and have revealed some really cool character and story details revolving around Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

As usual we must preface this by saying there are huge potential spoilers for the film below, so proceed at your own risk.

First up is it appears that Luke is on the move in this film reveals MSW, saying "it seems like he’s on the move during the movie and perhaps Rey is the reason for his travels or an unwanted distraction from his purpose on the island world."

In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker has a compass that guides his way. The compass is a box with a blue marble-like orb on the top. I believe Luke Skywalker moves his hand over the blue orb and the box opens up to reveal the compass inside the box. The interior of the box has metallic dials with Aurebesh writing inside denoting some “space” version of North, South, East, and West with a needle to point the way. The prop is probably the most beautiful piece of craftsmanship I can think of for a Star Wars film. It has a very old look to it but the inside is almost steampunk or like something mystical from Naboo.

Also of note is Luke’s orange backpack with a net on the back and his water bottle in it. The backpack has a net strapped to it and the net has kindling inside it for making a fire. I assume it is for making a fire, but it could be a porg’s nest for all I know.

Skywalker has a wooden walking stick and a cattle prod-type weapon for zapping any creatures that get in his way. A person on set heard it called a “lightning rod” but it doesn’t look like an epic weapon. It looks like something you would just casually zap a pest with. Luke’s wooden walking stick clicks to his belt where his lightsaber would be.

Now those are some nice little character details about Skywalker, but we've also got some really cool story details. These details involve not only Luke, but also Rey, Kylo, and Supreme Leader Snoke. This is said to be towards the end of the film where we'll see that “Luke is going for Snoke and Rey is going for Kylo.”

With it also being rumored that Skywalker will be taking out what's left of The Knights Of Ren during the film, its safe to assume that this showdown between Skywalker and Snoke will not be the final battle, which will probably be saved for Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars: Episode IX.
