Following the recent few months of rumors and speculation on whether or not actor Armie Hammer will or will not be playing Green Lantern in Warner Bros. and DC Films' DC Extended Universe, the actor has repeatedly joked and teased about his possible role with his various social media accounts. Along with Hammer teasing, actor Henry Cavill who plays Superman has also teased that the actor is has a role in the DCEU as well.
Now it appears that Cavill may have accidentally or most likely purposely revealed that Hammer is most definitely playing Green Lantern in the DCEU!
Following a recent hangout session at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas over the weekend between actors, directors, and a band of very lucky bloggers. Hammer excused himself, from a round of paintball with the group saying that he was nursing a right arm injury and couldn't risk another injury, which could subsequently cost him an acting gig. That gig of course being the role of Green Lantern in the DCEU.
Read a little transcript from the hangout via Screenrant:
Hammer offered, “I’m okay now. I’m in physical therapy. I have another month of that.” He raised his arm high over his head to demonstrate his hardiness. But emphasized his refraining from paintball was to allow for proper recovery. Pressed if he’s in the running for the Green Lantern Corps, he shrugged, “I don’t know. Technically (I am), because they haven’t hired anyone.” When Copley cut in to gasp that they’re making “another one“ of the Green Lantern movies, Hammer amended, “I don’t know if they’re making another one,” adding of his physical fitness for the role, “I’m not going be hobbled for the rest of my life. Let’s say that.”
Wheatley kindly pointed out that the Green Lantern doesn’t really need to do much fighting anyway, offering it’s the ring that does the heavy lifting. “You don’t punch stuff in Green Lantern. You go like this (holds out his fist) and then a parachute or something–“
“A fist!” Hammer interjects, “No a fist comes out! And that punches them.” So he’s done his research? “I’m a kid at heart. I mean, everyone’s read comic books.”
While Hammer’s being coy, Wheatley agreed that it’s strange the strapping Hammer hasn’t snagged a superhero role yet, saying, “because he looks like one.” To this, the dashing leading man flashed a bright white smile and laughed, “Typecasting!”

Following this post by Screenrant and other news outlets, actor Henry Cavill in a surprising move took to his Instagram account to tease the actor about his injury and seemingly (on purpose or not) confirmed that Hammer is playing Green Lantern with the caption "nothing funny to post here, its deadly serious because I've got to make sure I'm bigger than Green Lanter......Wait whaaat."
Now check out Cavill's Instagram post below:
Since I came off the ol knee injury I've been steadily increasing my training work load. I know it's irritating when people say this but it genuinely does feel so good to be back in it. I'm not destroying myself every day. Just working towards improvement by pushing hard enough to elicit change. Nothing funny to post here, it's deadly serious because I've got to make sure that I'm bigger than Green Lantern....Wait whaaat?
This new post seemingly reaffirms what has been speculated, teased, and rumored for so very long now. Armie Hammer is playing a version of the Green Lantern in Warner Bros. and DC Films DC Extended Universe. At this point if Armie Hammer isn't playing a Green Lantern in the new cinematic universe than fans will just be extremely disappointed and all of this playful teasing by the actors to the fans will be seen as a bad PR move.
Also, the fact that Warner Bros. "higher ups" like Geoff Johns obviously have to know what's going on with all of these huge social media followings for marketing and promotional purposes.....everything should be a very calculated thing. So if he really wasn't cast in the role, Warner Bros. would have most likely reached out to both actors telling them to cut it out. Since they haven't than obviously something is up.
So what are your thoughts. Is Hammer our new Green Lantern? If so which Green Lantern is he? Hal Jordan, Kyle Raynor, or Guy Gardner? Sound off in the comments section with your awesome thoughts. As always, thanks for stopping by ECMOVIEGUYS!
