A new report from our good friends over at MakingStarWars has revealed some very awesome plot details about the high profile Young Han Solo movie currently still in productions over at Disney and Lucasfilm. While we've seen countless news about Ron Howard coming on as director and like 70% to 90% of the film being re-shot. What we haven't heard about is what's really important here, and that is what the hell is this film going to be about?
While we know the film will revolve around young Han Solo going through some key life experiences that have led to him becoming the badass scoundrel he is during the events of the A New Hope. MakingStarWars has now revealed that the film will begin with Solo as an up-and-coming "racer" on the planet of Corellia before he joins up with the Empire.
During his involvement with the Empire, he meets his mentor known only as Beckett at this point, who is played by Woody Harrelson. MakingStarWars reveals that everything seems fine until one day the two refuse "to do something evil" and end up being punished for not obeying the Empire. The punishment involves them being sent to the spice minds of Kessel, which is where Solo will meet his life mate, Chewbacca. Most likely freeing Chewy along with some other Wookiees rumored to appear in the film.
Following that the pair along with other characters in the film will come across a young Lando Calrissian and the legendary Millennium Falcon. We can all assume, a game of Sabacc will be involved at some point.
Here is a more detailed breakdown of the various planets to be seen in the film from MakingStarWars:
Iridium has shown up in Star Wars before. The rumors about this world are that it is mountainous and dangerous. The Expanded Universe lore had pirates that used power gems to disable the shields of ships so they could raid them. We do not know if there’s a connection to the Expanded Universe lore or if they just happen to share the name.
Vandor was a rocky system of planets in the Expanded Universe in the Coruscant system. I should note that there’s a planet in Han Solo at Star’s End called Fondor. Fondor has also shown up in the new Battlefront II video game. It has made me wonder if I misheard it due to regional accents. I’m still awaiting confirmation on that because I could have sworn they were saying Vandor but Fondor sounds pretty damn close too.
Savareen has shown up in Star Wars lore already as well. It is mostly mentioned for its brandy. Maybe that brandy is interesting to smugglers during Imperial rule? We will have more to say on this world soon.
We think the Han Solo speeder stuff is likely on Corellia and the youngest version of Han we see in the film.
Kessel would be the world where Han Solo likely frees the Wookiees. We have heard of a variety of Wookiees besides Chewbacca showing up in this film. We saw a brief glimpse of Kessel in Star Wars Rebels and it was mentioned in A New Hope as a place See-Threepio really doesn’t want to be sent to. Do they end up on Kessel after a run goes bad or is it as prisoners because of what happened on the frontier of Corellia during a battle?
Add on top of all that juicy goodness, DARTH VADER is now pretty much a given to appear in the film in some capacity. There will probably never be a meeting between Solo and Vader, however, who's to say Vader isn't around the area when Solo is in and out of the Empire's dealings. All this should make for some pretty cool Star Wars fare come next Summer.
