Based on the 1955 novel of the same name by real-life ex criminal Edward Bunker, the Cleveland set Dog Eat Dog is directed by beloved screenwriter and filmmaker Paul Schrader. Schrader, who penned the scripts for classics, such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and The Last Temptation of Christ, among many others appears to be going back to his roots for this film. The film debuted at Cannes Film Festival back in May and stars the always insane, but sometimes legendary Nicolas Cage and William Dafoe as two bumbling ex-cons who try and traverse through a series of unfortunate events. The film appears to be an extremely dark screwball comedy, A mix between Cage's Raising Arizona and Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas.
As always, I'm excited for anything Cage is doing, good or bad, but hopefully this is one of those gems. The cast is pretty sweet and given the films release date, the studio appears to be somewhat confident in the film. Check out the fun trailers below, but be warned the the longer one of the two below gives away a bit to much of the film.
