'Mad Max: Fury Road' Prequel Is On The Way; Filming To Begin Later This Year

With George Miller's Spectacular sequel Mad Max: Fury Road being such a critical and box office success last year, it was only a matter of time before we finally got word that George Miller and company were back at it again with a badass follow-up. Now there were reports late last year and early this year that said Miller wanted a spin-off film revolving around Charlize Theron's breakout character Furiosa before the next official Mad Max starring film. Now we may have some news on the topic.

It appears as though George Miller will be getting his wish of a Furiosa prequel, but also a Mad Max story as well.  This is according to Dark Horizons who discovered a story in the Australian newspaper, The Herald-Sun, which claims that Warner Bros. and George Miller are apparently well underway into pre-production on a prequel, to be titled Mad Max: The Wasteland, which will focus on two separate story-lines intersecting together to eventually reach the point we get to at the beginning of last year's Fury Road. One story will follow Tom Hardy's Mad Max and the other to follow Charlize Theron's Furiosa.

The film is reportedly trying to get principle photography started late this year and/or early 2017 in the area of Australia called Broken Hill, which Miller wanted to use for Fury Road, but unforeseen rains lead to them filming that film in nearby Namibia. Now that Broken Hill is once again a dry, dusty landscape, Miller wants to take full advantage of the cool environment. The good folks over at Screenrant and Birth.Movies.Death also corroborate this story.

We also reached out to Warner Bros. earlier today, but they had no comment on the story. Just a reminder, until we see actual photographic proof, always take a rumor like this with a big grain of salt.

Also to note, director George Miller is a perfectionist/maniac and that from the time Mad Max: Fury Road got this type of reveal or announcement till the time the film actually hit theaters was more than four years, 2011 to 2015. So don't go getting all excited thinking, anyone is gonna be seeing Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron back in the Mad Max world on the big-screen anytime soon.

Either way, we are very excited! But What about all your guys and gals out there, are you pumped, are you ready for more Mad Max? Let's talk about it!
