My favorite working filmmaker today, Jeff Nichols is back with his second directorial effort of 2016, the true life drama Loving. The new film stars Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga as real life couple Mr. and Mrs. Loving as they fight for their marriage in 1967 and eventually ended up taking their marriage to the Supreme Court in Loving v. Virginia 1967. The film also stars the always incredible and longtime muse of Jeff Nichols, Michael Shannon.
Right now Jeff Nichols' first amazing film of the year Midnight Special is my my 3rd of 4th favorite movie of 2016. It will be interesting to see if the same director ends up have two films in my top 10 of the year.
Here's the official synopsis below:
From acclaimed writer/director Jeff Nichols, Loving celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving (portrayed by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga), who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry – and their love story has become an inspiration to couples ever since.
Loving is set to hit theaters on November 2nd.
