A24 looks to continue their streak of great films with another unique vision, this time from director Drake Doremus. Equals appears to be a forbidden futuristic love story between Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult, in which they live in a community of people who are not allowed to have any type human emotions . The films looks beautiful, but appears to model itself after so many films that have come before it like THX 1138, Logan's Run, Romeo & Juliet, 1984, The Island, etc. That being said with A24's recent track record, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and I've always enjoyed Kristen Stewart when she isn't in a Twilight film. Check out the trailer below and then sound off in the comments with your thoughts.
Here's the synopsis:
"Equals" is set in a world where all types of emotion have been eliminated. While many maintain a drone-like existence of going through the motions, there are those who begin to experience feelings. These outliers are diagnosed with Switch On Syndrome or SOS; some are exiled from their safe reality. Co-workers Silas (Hoult) and Nia (Stewart) find themselves in danger when they fall in love with each other. In hopes of creating a better life, the couple entertains thoughts of escape to possibly find a world where the two of them can be together."
Equals is set to hit theaters on July 15th.
