While we are still a little over a month away until X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters, rumors are already starting to circulate, about what the next film or series of X-Men films will be about.
Earlier today on the latest episode of Heroic Insider, Umberto Gonzalez revealed that 20th Century Fox is very impressed with Sophia Turner (Game of Thrones) take on Jean Grey, and is planning on possibly centering the next trilogy of films around her with an adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga.
As many X-Men fans know, The Dark Phoenix Saga centers around X-Men member Jean Grey as she becomes possessed by a maleviolent entity known as The Phoenix Force. This adaptation was previously attempted in the hated and reviled Brett Ratner directed X-Men: The Last Stand. Let's hope we don't have to go through something like that again. Fingers crossed!
While none of this has been confirmed yet, Umberto Gonzalez is consistent with his "Insider scoops", and of course we still haven't seen Apocalypse to really know what happens there. Either way this is fun speculation and I for one really hope this storyline is done right this type around. There is some truly compelling character stuff in that story arc.
Check out the entire Heroic Hollywood clip below to hear more about the rumored return to The Dark Phoenix Saga, they discuss the topic around the 21:00 mark:
X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theaters on May 27th.
