By Matt O'Bryant

Yesterday director Luc Besson (Fifth Element, The Professional) revealed to the world, the first official image for his new Science Fiction Epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, with the promise we would get more today.

Well......Besson delivered! Via Entertainment Weekly nonetheless, which revealed a couple of cool new images from the film and a behind the scenes photo. Plus the director gives us some details on the images and the film. Check everything out below and sound off in the comments with your thoughts.

Luc Besson talks about some of the filming schedule:

Tomorrow will be half of the film. Our total is 98 days, but I saved two days already on the schedule. I feel really, honestly, more than happy. Which is rare. Usually I’m always skeptical and I wait for the editing, but I have so much good stuff already. The trick of the film was to be sure that Valerian and Laureline were working as a couple. And if I have that, I’m safe.

Luc Besson on the lead actors Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne

Since day one, they clicked. They connected. Dane is already a genius before he met me. But Cara right now is like a bird who’s taking off. She’s really going to be such a huge star.
His name is K-Tron. He’s a police officer. You can’t even deal with him. You don’t argue with him. He’s not really important in the film, but he’s just like the the military police. Believe me, I have hundreds of these characters like him.
When I started to write this at 13 years old, I was living in the country of cheese, and I wanted to make movies. But when I open my windows I see cows, so believe me, that pushes your imagination. Because you want to escape. I start to read Valerian when I was 10. At the time there was no Internet; there wasn’t even a TV at home. So I read and just had my imagination. So when I look at bluescreen, I see everything. My imagination is very comfortable with bluescreen.

Here's the official synopsis:

"Rooted in the classic graphic novel series, Valerian and Laureline- visionary writer/director Luc Besson advances this iconic source material into a contemporary, unique and epic science fiction saga.

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner—blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.

Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger."

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is set to hit theaters on July 21st, 2017.
