Okay Star Wars fans, get ready for another huge story involving Lucasfilm and the long in development Boba Fett solo film. The Mandalorian armored bounty hunter, Boba Fett, has been one of the most beloved fan favorite Star Wars character since he was introduced in the original trilogy. So obviously from a financial business decision, a spin-off film with one of the coolest Star Wars characters ever was a no-brainer. The film was previously reported to have been fairly deep into pre-production with Josh Trank (Chronicle) directing and supposedly there was even a sizzle reel created to wow Star Wars Celebration attendies back in 2015. Sadly, Trank's issues with 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four lead to him leaving the Star Wars project.
Now, via an awesome new report from My Entertainment World via Omega Underground via Screen Rant, it seems Lucasfilm has moved the film back into development following the huge success of their first Star Wars spin-off film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The report seems to indicate that the Boba Fett film is now scheduled to begin filming in London, just as all the previous Star Wars film have. While no other production information was listed, the site does reveal what appears to be a brief synopsis of the planned film.
An origin story of the galaxy’s most notorious bounty hunter. Boba Fett is a Mandalorian warrior who was trained by his father-figure Jango Fett and became a notorious bounty hunter throughout the galaxy.
This report is very interesting considering the big story we broke earlier in the year about Disney and Lucasfilm planning on using the Boba Fett character not just in a film or films, but also in a possible live-action television show being developed for either ABC or HBO. Don't expect this film to hit theaters anytime soon, at the earliest if things begin to movie very quickly, 2020 or 2021.
