While we assumed a new trailer was coming sometime soon............we now know when!
Just earlier today we had heard from a trusted source that a new trailer was dropping for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in the next coming weeks on or before the 15th of December. Which seemed to make a lot of sense considering the simple fact that the trailer could of course be attached to Disney's other huge film hitting theaters on the 16th, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
A couple of hours later before we could confirm the news with another trusted source the director himself James Gunn while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter seemingly confirmed that we will indeed be getting the new trailer a the next couple of weeks, saying the first official trailer for Guardians Vol. 2 is ready to go.
The director then went on to discuss the difficulties in creating a trailer for a huge blockbuster such as Guardians:
“With Guardians, people really go through every single little shot and try to figure out what the movie’s about. And there’s a lot of mysteries in Guardians 2. We [Gunn and the Marvel Marketing Team] were talking about how much to give away — and we’re not going to give away very much. Guardians, it’s such an emotional and physical journey, going to all these different places. It’s like, ‘God, do I really want to show this planet we go to in the middle of the movie? … Those are always hard choices to make.”
The 2014 original featured one of the coolest teaser trailers of all time. The clip, which featured Blue Swede’s ‘Hooked On A Feeling,’ almost never saw the light of day. According to Gunn, test audiences hated the trailer:
“That trailer tested not very well. We had another trailer that was very cheesy that sold the movie as something different than what it was — that tested a little better.”
The director was going to give in, and choose the version which tested well, until Marvel’s Marketing Team stepped in:
“And at the end of the day, the [marketing] guys were like, ‘This is what the movie is. We are selling what the movie is. Not something else. You’ve got to sell the movie for what it is, and that’s what they did. They really bought my trust with that on the first movie.”
So what do you guys think? Are you excited for all of the badass trailers that will be attached to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story? Let us know by sounding off in the comments section below. As always, thanks for stopping by ECMOVIEGUYS!
