While this story is nothing new and had been rumored since before Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released, it is now official.
Empire is reporting that Gwendoline Christe has confirmed that Captain Phasma will be returning in Star Wars: Episode VIII. This was seemingly confirmed by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy a couple of months ago, but this is the first time Christe has said anything official. Check out the quote from Empire below:
“Walking the red carpet at Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, Christie was asked by People magazine whether Phasma will be back for more threatening, chrome-armoured antics in Episode VIII. “I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that’s an exclusive, actually,” she replied, giving hope to everyone who wants to see how much of a badass Phasma can be.”
I'm excited! Hopefully she will have more to do this time around. For many Star Wars fans, myself included Captain Phasma's role in The Force Awakens, just felt to small and It didn't make a lot of sense considering the hype around her. Lets hope they do her justice this time.
Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters on December 2017.
