By Matt O'Bryant
Hello Everyone and Welcome Back,
Every once and while we get a film like this, that comes out and stuns everyone, it was just last week when 'American Sniper' got Six Academy Award Nominations including Best Actor for Bradley Cooper his 3rd nomination in 3 years. No one expected the film to get really any of the top nominations. Well now it is not only an awards contender it is looking to be a huge hit a t the box office as well with a hugely surprising box office take with an estimated $90 million plus this weekend! The film will end the holiday weekend Monday with a stunning estimated $105 million.
This will be the biggest opening weekend in January ever besting that of James Cameron's Avatar when it opened with $68 million.
This is also the biggest opening weekend for both Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper's careers respectively. This film is huge and gonna end up with double the amount of money most analyst projected it to have for the weekend. These numbers are so surprising and is a huge deal for Cooper's career who has been building momentum over the past few years, who we can now say is definitely going to become one of the biggest Actors out today with the awards and box office draw combined he is on top of his game.
The overall weekend box office was another record breaker with an estimated $240 million beating out $231.5 million from 2009.
Coming in at number 2 is Kevin Hart's 'The Wedding Ringer' with an estimated $25 million which is not bad considering Kevin Hart is playing the same character for like the 10th time in a row, the film has a 33 percent approval rating. Rounding out the top 5 for the weekend is 'Paddington' which brought in an estimated $24 million for the holiday weekend. Finally at the 4th and 5th spots is 'Taken 3' and 'Selma' with an estimated $16.4 million and $10.3 million respectively.
