News: Demolition Man's 3 Seashells Finally Explained Almost?
By Matt O'Bryant
In the 1993 film 'Demolition Man' times were very hard for society, which was set in a future full of all kinds of strange rules, and wild technology. In there future, because of mass corporations taking over there was in the end on one restaurant to eat at, and of course that was the "insanely amazing best restaurant ever Taco Bell". That's right folks the only choice on the menu anywhere was the "great food of Taco Bell." That is just one of the many strange ideas going on inside the writer of 'Demolition Man' Daniel Waters and that brings us to perhaps one of the most perplexing issues of all time in film history, what the hell are we supposed to do with the 3 seashells.
In case you have forgotten during the film Demolition Man, Stallone's character LAPD Sgt. John Spartan wakes up in the future from being frozen and a point in the film he has to use the bathroom, when he goes to do his business he discovers that in this future there is no toilet paper anymore, only 3 seashells. How to use these 3 seashells to clean your butt was no explained in the film and has never been explained to this day. Until now we never really knew how this idea ever even happened. Recently though Daniel Waters the writer of Demolition man was on Reddit answering questions and was asked about the sea shells, now he still didn't explain how to use them but did explain where the hilarious idea came from.
""I won't tell you the actual secret, but I'll tell you where it came from. There's a scene where Stallone has to use a restroom. I'm trying to come up with futuristic things you'd find in there. I was having trouble, so I called my buddy, another screenwriter across town, asked him if he had any ideas. Ironically enough that guy was taking a dump when he answered the phone, looked around his bathroom and said 'I have a bag of seashells on my toilet as a decoration?' I said 'Ok, I'll make something out of that.'"
So yes now we have half of the answer only time will tell if we ever find out how to actually use the infamous 3 sea shells!
