The Official 'Midnight Special' Trailer Has Arrived!!

Midnight Special looks really, really special. Plus…Michael Shannon!
By Roy Geer
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Midnight Special. Mud and Take Shelter writer/director Jeff Nichols’ upcoming sci-fi thriller which features maybe my favorite actor today, Michael Shannon. General Zod from Man of Steel stars as a father who goes on the run from religious extremists and local law enforcement in order to protect his young son (Jaeden Lieberher, St. Vincent) and uncover the truth about the boy’s special powers.
Midnight Special looks like it could be a very cool throwback to the 70’s style sci-fi but mixed with just enough of our current sci-fi modernism.  Nichols has a fantastic habit of taking a hugely rich and bizarre world as his backdrop to a character rich story, while finding a unique spin on the genre.
Take Shelter is one of my personal favorites where Nichols and Shannon have you guessing until the end but keep you enthralled the entire picture all while driving towards a brilliantly sci-fi yet realistic ending.
If you have never seen Bug, stop. Right now. And watch it. This film gives you a very good idea of the acting capabilities Michael Shannon can provide. As you can tell, I’m stoked for what 2016 has in store for us.

Leave us your thoughts on this cool looking film in the comments section below, thanks!

In the sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special,” writer/director Jeff Nichols proves again that he is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time, as a father (Michael Shannon), goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), and uncover the truth behind the boy’s special powers.

What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government. Ultimately his father risks everything to protect Alton and help fulfill a destiny that could change the world forever, in this genre–defying film as supernatural as it is intimately human.
