Box Office: 'Jurassic World' Survives Competition, Holds On To Number #1 Spot For Third Straight Weekend!!

By Matt O'Bryant

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to our box office weekend update here at EastCoastMovieGuys!

Jurassic World survived the competition in its third weekend of release battling it out against Disney's Inside Out for the number one spot!  The two films went back and forth all weekend long, but in the end a bunch of "feelings/emotions" were no much for some "dinosaurs"!

Jurassic World took the number one spot again for the third weekend in a row, bringing in another $54.2 million to add to its now massive $500 million domestic total!  Becoming the first film to ever hit that mark in just its 3rd weekend of release!  The film surpasses Avengers: Age Of Ultron for the highest domestic gross of the year, and is now the fifth highest grossing film of all-time domestically!

Disney Pixar's Inside Out came in second place this weekend, bringing in $52.1 million in its second weekend of release!  The critically acclaimed animated film held up nicely dropping only about 42 percent from last week.  The film has a very nice ten-day take of around $185 million domestically.

Coming in third place this weekend was Seth MacFarlane's disappointing sequel Ted 2 bringing in around $33 million for the weekend.  The film came in well below expectations with some higher range projections around $60 million for the weekend.  The first Ted opened with $54.4 million back in 2012.  These opening numbers do not bode well for the future of the R-Rated comedy, considering the competition in the next few weeks.

Another newcomer this weekend was the Warner Brothers and MGM family film Max, debuting with a stellar $12.2 million for the weekend!  Given the film's A cinema score, and the upcoming 4th of July weekend, the family friendly flick should hold pretty well.

Finally rounding out the top five this weekend was Fox's Spy adding another $7.8 million to its twenty-four day tally of $88.35 million.

Well that does it for the numbers this weekend!
