Universal Pictures has just released the first trailer for acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan's latest directorial effort Split! The new psychological thriller from Shyamalan stars the always riveting James McAvoy along with the extremely talented actress from this year's The Witch, breakout star Anya Taylor-Joy. Following Shyamalan's slight come back with the hit film The Visit last year, the director is re-teaming with producer Jason Blum.

While the trailer looks promising, the far and away best part appears to be James McAvoy who looks to be having a whole lot of fun playing the character of Kevin who is described in the trailer as having 23 distinct and very unique personalities. As a huge fan of M. Night Shyamalan, I'm very excited for any thing the man directs. Hopefully this will continue his nice little comeback and win back his fans followers from the early 2000s! The film's release date does have me a little worried with January traditionally being the dumping ground for Hollywood.

Here’s the official synopsis for Split:

"While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.
Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart."

Split is set to hit theaters on January 20th, 2017.
