By Matt O.

Lionsgate has just released the incredible first poster for Mel Gibson fifth directorial effort, the highly anticipated war drama with the coolest sounding name ever Hacksaw Ridge! Say what you will about Mel Gibson's off screen antics, but damn it to hell, the man is an incredible actor and filmmaker. Surprisingly its been 10 years since Mel Gibson last film he directed Apocalypto, which is absolutely incredible film making.

The film stars Andrew Garfield as the true life "war hero", who saved 75 men during the bloodiest battle of World War II without ever firing a single bullet. Check out the badass poster below and some of the first images from the film below. Also, as I always say, when a studio releases a poster out of nowhere its usually a good sign that we will be getting the first teaser or trailer with a week or so.

The film is written by Robert Schenkkan, Andrew Knight, and Braveheart scribe Randall Wallace, the film stars Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths, and Vince Vaughn.

Here's the official synopsis:

"HACKSAW RIDGE is the extraordinary true story of conscientious collaborator Desmond Doss [Andrew Garfield] who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He believed the war was just, but killing was nevertheless wrong; he was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon. As an army medic, Doss single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. He was the first conscientious objector to ever earn the Congressional Medal of Honor."

Hacksaw Ridge is set to hit theaters on November 4th.
