New 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Image Reveals Alison Blaire aka Dazzler Cameo

By Matt O.

Early yesterday morning a brand new image from X-Men: Apocalypse was shared by actress Sophia Turner (Game of Thrones) who is playing the young Jean Grey in the film via her Twitter account.

The image reveals Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Jubilee (if you can spot her) shopping in a record store in the early 80's, with Cyclops holding up a record titled Dazzler: Sounds of Light and Fury.

While casual movie fans will pass this up as just a cool random 80's reference, many hardcore X-Men fans will know that Dazzler was actually a mutant named Alison Blaire with the ability to convert sound vibrations into light and energy beams. But she also lives a double life as a pop artist, beginning her career as a disco dancer before eventually moving onto rock and adult contemporary stardom.

Another aspect to this cool Easter Egg, is the connection of modern day popstar Taylor Swift. Who may actually be playing Dazzler in the film as alluded to by Sophia Turner, in her tweet saying

"#FBF that time Cyclops and I went shopping at the mall and found our favorite singer’s album (pre 1989, of course)"

1989, being a reference to the name of Swift's latest best selling album. There is also this interesting picture taken from last year during prodction on Apocalypse with Producer of the X-Men films Simon Kinberg, Taylor Swift, James McAvoy, and Sophia Turner.

Interesting stuff right? While I'm not huge on the idea of non actors playing major characters in the the X-Men films or any film for that matter (see Will I. A.M in Origins: Wolverine). Hopefully this is nothing more than a neat little cameo for all of us X-Men fans.

Let us know what you think and sound off in the comments section below with your thoughts.

"Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction."

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theaters on May 27th.
