The New 'Midnight Special' Trailer Is Superbly Thrilling & Mysterious

By Matt O'Bryant

After being stunned, and surprised by the first trailer for director Jeff Nichols' Midnight Special, I could not have been more excited when I discovered this new trailer online late last night. Jeff Nichols previous efforts are two of my favorite films of the past five years (Take Shelter, Mud), and if you haven't seen them you need too. Plus Michael Shannon is superb in every role he's ever had. The film looks amazing and I really just love seeing fresh takes on the superhero/sci-fi genres. Check out the trailer below and sounds off in the comments with your thoughts.

Here's the official synopsis via the press release:

In the sci-fi thriller Midnight Special, writer/director Jeff Nichols proves again that he is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time, as a father (Michael Shannon), goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), and uncover the truth behind the boy’s special powers.

What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government. Ultimately his father risks everything to protect Alton and help fulfill a destiny that could change the world forever, in this genre–defying film as supernatural as it is intimately human.

Midnight Special hits theaters on March 18th.
