Heartbreaking Trailer For Peter Berg's Boston Marathon Bombing Film 'Patriots Day' Released

Call it the best one-two punch of 2016, from director Peter Berg!

Following Peter Berg's first surprisingly incredible film of the year Deepwater Horizon starring Mark Wahlberg based on a true-life event of the BP oil spoil disaster. CBS Films has just released the directer's second masterful looking film based on another recent true-life event, Patriots Day.

Patriots Day tells the tragic and terrible events of the Boston Marathon Bombing from a couple of years ago, and once again stars Berg's go-to leading man, Mark Wahlberg as a police officer working the event. Much like Deepwater Horizon the film also sports a very nice supporting cast Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan, John Goodman, and J.K. Simmons. Also to note, it was just revealed about a week ago that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are going to be composing the score, for the film. Which will mark only the fifth time the two have scored a film with their previous efforts all being masterpieces, The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon TattooGone Girl, and the documentary Before the Flood.

Check out the heartbreaking first teaser trailer below and if you haven't seen Deepwater Horizon in theaters yet, treat yourself. Here's the official synopsis for Patriots Day:

"In the aftermath of an unspeakable act of terror, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard Deslauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of the most sophisticated manhunt in law enforcement history and the strength of the people of Boston."

Patriots Day is set to hit select theaters on December 21st and expands nationwide on January 13, 2017.
