Box Office: Avengers Opens Huge Overseas With $201 Million Debut; While Furious 7 Remains On Top Domestic!

By Matt O'Bryant

Hello and welcome back everyone to the box office weekend update!

Avengers: Age of Ultron is already off to an incredible start overseas with a huge debut bringing in an estimated $201 million!

Back home though it was a different story with a lot more of the same since Avengers doesn't open up here domestically until next Friday on May 1st, 2015!

As expected Furious 7 held off competition in its 4th weekend of release bringing in another $18.26 million to take the number 1 spot again.  Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 some how managed to stay in second place with $15.5 million, despite a strong opening by the Blake Lively film The Age of Adaline.  The film opened on the higher end of expectations with a nice $13.02 million, which is a very good number considering Blake Lively is not yet a household name.

Finally Rounding out the top 5 this weekend were holdover's Home and Unfriended. Dreamworks' Animation's Home surprisingly held on to the 4th spot over Unfriended bringing in another $8.3 million.  Unfriended brought in another $6.24 million bringing its 10 day total to $25.15 million,  a very impressive number considering the film was made on a super low budget of only $1 Million!

Elsewhere at the box office A24'S Ex Machina expanded this weekend from just a few theaters across America to to over 1200 locations bringing in an estimated $5.44 million.  Considering its limited release Ex Machina's numbers a fairly impressive and the film should hold up well over the coming weeks with it strong critical rating and word of mouth.

As always thanks for stopping by to check out the weekend box office update.  We look forward to bringing you all the top box office numbers next weekend!
