Wesley Snipes Talks 'Blade' Sequel & Joining The Avengers In 'Infinity War'

By Matt O'Bryant

What's up guys and gals,

Once again there is hope for Wesley Snipes to return as the badass vampire hunter known as Blade!  Many of you might remember that years ago before the comic book world had completely taken over Hollywood, Hollywood studios had major doubt in bringing comic book properties to the big screen.  Especially after the debacle that was Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin in 1997.  Then there was Blade, a highly stylized ultra violent R-rated comic book adaptation starring huge movie star "at the time" Wesley Snipes.

Blade was not only a profitable movie, but it was also really really good compared to most any other comic book adaptations up until that point.  A lot of people point to the X-Men franchise for kicking off the comic book movie era we live in today back in 2000, but it was actually the Blade series that started everything we know today.

Now cut to 2015, after the Blade Trilogy ended in 2004 and its been over 10 years since Blade has been seen on the big screen.  Comic book films are the most profitable form of movies in Hollywood right now and Marvel Studios is king of the mountain for the moment.  Interesting enough Marvel Studios now owns the rights to the Blade franchise and it was recently confirmed a few months ago that Wesley Snipes has been in talks with Marvel about reprising the role of Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a recent interview with the Huffington Post, Snipes was asked about further talks with the studio and if and when he is coming back as Blade and joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Here's what the actor had to say:

There’s always a possibility, you know. It’s in Marvel’s hands. They’re controlling the pace and the flow with that. Conversations have been good. They see the value in it. We see the value in it. I’m still in shape enough and fit enough to handle the role. We’ll see where it goes. I don’t really know what’s going to happen to it yet.

When asked, Snipes even talks about Blade showing up in an Avengers film like Avengers: Infinity War.

That would be interesting. I mean, I know it’s in the comic book. It would be interesting to see where they would place him and where he really would fit in. He’s got to bite somebody. I don’t know who he’s going to bite. Scarlett Johansson!

I'll of that is very interesting and hopefully happens down the road.  If and when it does happen, it will be interesting to see how the studio incorporates Blade into the the MCU.  Will they keep the Blade Trilogy as part of the MCU Canon, or will they create a whole new back story for Blade.

We should hear something from Marvel on this topic sooner rather than later, for the simple fact that Wesley Snipes isn't getting any younger and I would imagine they would want to sign him to a multi-film contract which would include him having his own new solo film and appearing in various MCU properties and maybe even their Netflix properties like Daredevil down the road.

So what is everyone's thoughts on this?  Can Wesley Snipes still be a badass as Blade? Should they recast?  Leave us your thoughts in the comments below.
