Welcome Back Everyone,
Spider-Man is one of the most popular Marvel characters. So far, the live action Spider-Man movies have had two different actors play the web slinger, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. With all the recent buzz surrounding your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, the question should be asked: who did it better, Maguire or Garfield?
In my humble opinion, Andrew Garfield did it better. Though I could give you many reasons why I think this is, I’ll give you the most important ones.
The chemistry between Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield is astounding. The leading couple of Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker in “The Amazing Spider-Man” just feels so much more natural and compatible than in the previous films. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst never really seemed to connect as well as Garfield and Stone.
He has the same mannerisms and attitude of the comic book Spider-Man. The “The Amazing Spider man” series has so much more sassiness and humor than the Sam Raimi trilogy, which is very fitting to the comics. He maintains the intimidation factor while keeping his wit.
He has charisma that Tobey Maguire never had. Its hard to distinguish what it is, but it is definitely there. Its sort of an invisible quality that we can’t define. While the majority of Garfield’s performance felt genuine, most of Maguire’s felt forced.
Garfield’s body is much more like the comic version of Spider-Man than Tobey’s. Not that this was anything Maguire could change, but Garfield just simply filled out the suit better.
They showed just how smart Peter Parker really is. Parker making the web shooters himself is a perfect example of this. This is something I feel the Raimi trilogy severely lacked in.
Do you agree? If not, leave a comment. Who do you think was the better Spider-Man?
